Learn Fresh Helps Students Learn Math Skills through Sports
Learn Fresh, an international educational non-profit, seeks to boost students’ STEM achievement by integrating sports. Since 2013, the organization has collaborated with teams and organizations to teach foundational math skills through basketball.
Through programs like NBA Math Hoops, MLB Players STEM League, and STEM Goals, Learn Fresh utilizes community involvement, play, and comprehensive evaluation to accomplish academic objectives. These initiatives engage students from diverse backgrounds and experiences. By harnessing the power of sports, the dedicated Learn Fresh team makes math an exciting and captivating subject for students across the United States, Australia, and South Africa.
The STEM League board game, a culmination of 30 years of expertise in educational game design, showcases the actual statistics of present MLB stars, encompassing players from all countries represented in Major League Baseball. In a timed setting, students engage in competition to solve math problems, earning points. The game integrates arithmetic, decimals, percentages, and fractions.
Aligned with the Common Core State Standards and 21st Century Learning Skills, the curriculum provides a range of flexible lessons, enabling students to cultivate essential executive function and social-emotional skills. Simultaneously, they delve deeper into statistical analysis and data interpretation within the game.
